My intent was to get the move from Colorado to Washington handled and then update with all our plans. That was before the following incidents:
-Realizing the 17 foot moving truck we reserved was not quite enough for all of my worldly crap and having to upgrade to a 26 footer.
-Taking my dear sweet time unpacking. If I told you it took me two months to do so you would probably think less of me wouldn’t you? What if I said three? Okay, just checking.
-Ben getting ready to be promoted. (I am ridiculously proud of him) <3
-Flying out to perform in California.
-Beginning my wedding company again and booking 20ish weddings for OTHER people before ours.
I would like to point out something peculiar. Call it a social experiment. When I sent out our “save-the-date”’s I was so excited. One by one I started getting responses.
From anyone of the male persuasion: “I got your invitation.”
From anyone of the female persuasion: “Oh my God that save-the-date was amazing!... I am so excited!...”
In case you didn’t catch the miniscule inflections there allow me to spell it out for you.
Guys:
1) Didn’t know it wasn’t an invitation
2) Weren’t bothered by the fact that there was absolutely no information about the upcoming even besides our names and the date.
3) Couldn’t be considered “unexcited” about the idea of a wedding, but were definitely not on the female peak of elation about it.
Girls:
1) Knew it was a save-the-date
2) commented on how long it took to manufacture each one
3) Shrieked with happiness at the thought of a wedding.
4) Then preceded to go on for a few hours with me about what the invitations were going to look like.
5) Asked when they could expect said invitation as well as discussing what color they should wear to the nuptials
Moving on...
Ben and I have talked and we have both mutually agreed that this wedding is less about us (we promise there will be no two hour long ceremony where we stare into each others eyes and use words like “soul mate” ad nauseum) and more a celebration of how much we adore the families and friends that saw us through all the rough spots.
So here is a quick run down of a few interesting things regarding the wedding
(a.k.a. "reasons you should be RSVP'ing"):
Venue
www.sbmansion.comCatering:
My close friend Chef Samuel Fuentes is flying in from Spain with his wife Leonor (who is a bridesmaid) and son Sammy (our ring bearer) to cater the wedding. Sam and Leo are like family and Ben and I are honored to have Sam’s culinary skills creating the dinner you will all be enjoying. Sam has a degree in Culinary Arts and has been doing high end event catering for a long time now. Pretty much anything Sam has ever made tastes like heaven.
Cake:
It’s a surprise, but I assure you if you miss it you will hate yourself. You’ve been warned.
Music:
Because we have a music theme, expect to hear lots of it. There is a speak easy in the lower levels of the mansion and we are setting it up with a live band that myself and many of my musician friends will be performing at. Ben and I have our hearts in music in totally different ways, but it has always been how we identify our lives.
Okay I think that is plenty for an update right now. If you aren’t asleep just yet, feel free to watch the video that Ms. Danette Marie Ward put together of our engagement photos. It's really good. Promise.
We created this site for everyone to update themselves on what is going on with our wedding. Most of you are not in our immediate vicinity and we don't want you to feel left out. All the information you need will be posted here from dress code, food selections, RSVP area, wedding venue location, ect. We will also be posting our engagement photos, dress shopping, and other fun things here for you to see.
Also:
Let us have a moment of honesty... We can say "we" all we want in an effort to give the vibe that Ben and I are BOTH going to be writing/updating this blog... Yeah right. I am sure from time to time, when he has an opportunity away from military goings on, he will post something, but the majority will be from yours truly.
There are a few reasons for this.
I am the one with more time out of the two of us. Benjamin's Air Force obligations require that he be paying a little more attention to his new job, which does not include random blogging about picking monogrammed, chocolate, wedding favors and dress fittings.
I love to write. Albeit most of my writing has a bent of sarcasm and random humor (consider yourself warned) and will come across less like a blushing bride.
I talk WAY more then Benjamin. So it stands to reason I would post blogs here more than him.
I am going to cut this initial post short because there is not much information to relay at the moment. This is just a friendly introduction to what will being going on in this area.
Yay for wedding planning!
